Do you believe in business as a force for good? There’s so much interest in social entrepreneurship but do you know that means and how social entrepreneurs can distinguish their social mission using new certification and legal structures? Do you know the difference between Certified B Corp (“B Corps”) and Wisconsin benefit corporations? (Hint: They are not the same thing in Wisconsin?)
Join us Tuesday, April 23 when two local prominent experts — Abi Barnes and Nic Herdrich — will be on hand to answer questions and learn the difference between B Corps and benefit corporations, as well as why one or both of these options might be right for your business.
Abi Barnes is the CEO & Co-Founder of Allergy Amulet, Inc. She has written extensively on social, political, and environmental issues, and has been published in several well-known periodicals and academic journals, including The Atlantic and Forbes. She is a graduate of Vermont Law School, the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, and Kenyon College. She is the author of An Entrepreneur’s Guide to Certified B Corporations and Benefit Corporations, by Yale Center for Business and the Environment and Patagonia.
Nicholas Herdrich is an attorney at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP Nic believes start-ups are a tool that can be used to effectuate social change. He spearheaded an effort to pass benefit corporation legislation in Wisconsin and represented the first benefit corporation incorporated in Wisconsin.
The event is free, but make a donation of any amount and StartingBlock will make a rotating investment in a local entrepreneur through KIVA Madison: a local crowdsourced funding platform for local entrepreneurs that provides up to $10,000 in no interest loans.
